Account Types
There are three account types available on the UGA streaming server: Individual,
Course, and Special.
- Individual accounts are accounts granted to a single UGA-affiliated instructor
or staff member. These accounts do not expire.
- Course accounts are those associated with a specific UGA course and may
be shared by students enrolled in the course. These accounts expire one
year from the creation date and all media will be deleted after the expiration
date.
- Special accounts are accounts granted to UGA-affiliated departments,
groups, and organizations with an ongoing educational mission that requires
streaming media services. These accounts do not expire.
Policies
- Individuals, Course account managers, and Special account holders must
have a UGA MyID in
order to be approved for a streaming server account.
- Both Course Accounts and Special Accounts require sponsorship by a single
UGA instructor or staff member who is ultimately responsible for all media
published to the streaming server.
- Individual student accounts are not available.
- A faculty or staff member who manages a Course or Special account may
also be granted an individual account.
- Course Account names will follow the ABCD1234 convention used in WebCT
(for example, ENGL1101).
- Course account extensions may be granted with
written justification on a case-by-case basis.
- Creating and using unauthorized copies of audio and visual works in either
digital or non-digital format is not appropriate and may be illegal. Account
holders on the UGA streaming server must comply with the following guidelines
and policies:
- Each account holder will receive:
- 250 MB space on the streaming media server
- a listserv subscription to streaming-users, for general discussion
and technical support
- a listserv subscription to stream-announce, for announcements
only
- free consultation and technical support through the CTL (542-1355)
and EITS (542-3106) offices.
- Quota increases will be considered on an individual basis following a
request outlining the need for additional
space.
- Enterprise Information
Technology Services and the Center for Teaching and Learning administer the streaming media
server, its software and hardware. Announcements about potential service
interruptions will be posted to the stream-announce listserv.
- The system files necessary for disaster recovery will be backed up, however,
good practice dictates that media files should always be archived by the
account holder on a machine other than this server.
